“The mother was grateful to join her son’s world. Without words, he silently said, ‘What took you so long?’ The mother channeled from the higher realms that for lifetimes, the boy had to enter everyone else’s world, and he had waited so long for someone to enter his.
The boy was a bridge to an unseen realm full of wonder, silently waiting for his mother to cross the bridge, leave her ego behind, and enter her son’s world. She could be in the moment with him.”
Lara Catherine is an artist, writer, and mother whose creative life has always been a way of making sense of the world within her. Born in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and spent recent years on Prince Edward Island, Lara discovered needle felting after visiting a local wool mill. Something about the wool immediately felt intuitive — a way to express thoughts and feelings that were often difficult to put into words. She taught herself the craft, eventually creating work that appeared in stores across the Maritime provinces under the name The Felted Fawn.
But it was motherhood that transformed her art into something deeper. While raising her three boys, two of whom were diagnosed with autism, Lara began quietly needle felting her own inner world — often at the kitchen table after supper, without knowing exactly what she was creating. Over time, those images began to find their words, growing from a few sentences into the book she had never set out to write.
Her work is rooted in presence, intuition, spirituality and the belief that seeing the light in our children can help us recognise the light within ourselves. Through her art and writing, Lara invites other mothers to step away from expectation, enter their children’s worlds, and find their own way home.
